Right after I got my Yuletide assignment, I came down with a nice case of H1N1. That was not a fun week, though it did lead to some interesting plot ideas as I lay on my couch, completely delusional, with a temp of 103. The week of flu was followed with a week of bronchitis, but thanks to the miracle of antibiotics that's almost gone so I've been able to actually get some writing done. But now I feel like I've written myself into a corner. I know how the story ends, I just can't figure out how to get the characters there. I don't want to do any major re-working, because I'm pretty happy with what I have thus far, but I'm kind of worried I won't be able to figure out how to get to the end. Augghrfsk!

So the musical I'm in is going up this weekend. We had a show last night, two shows today, and one tomorrow afternoon. I went out after the show tonight and am, obviously, exhausted. As I'm driving home, I'm planning exactly what I'm going to do when I get there in order to get into bed as quickly as possible and was planning on completely ignoring my email, when all of a sudden I realized: Yuletide assignments could have gone out! Must check email! And now I am sooooo excited and will spend tomorrow's show plotting!

Spent most of the day on TV tropes, hiding from my writer's block. It worked really well, but didn't actually help me get over it. I know the beginning of the story, and I know how it ends, it's just the pesky middle.

The bright side is that I decided I needed this icon and then [info]dragontatt made it for me, so at least something good came out of my staring at a blank word doc all day.

Shelter Fic: Four Conversations Shaun Didn't Have, and One He Did

Thanks to [info]dsudis's post on this movie, I decided I had to watch it, and was hooked. Shelter is a fabulous movie that should be required viewing for all. There's a great fandom pimp written for it here by [info]true_enough. It inspired me, so here is fic.

Apparently CoE was just what I needed to motivate me to write the fic I've been thinking about four a couple of months now. It's not like it has anything to do with CoE whatsoever, but it does have a plot! (Although by the end of each writing session, the plot has managed to start turning in a different direction than I ever intended. I'm sort of excited to find out how my own story ends up, because at this point I have no idea.)

Hopefully putting it out in the ether that I'm working on something will help me actually follow through, which I haven't done in a while.

Dear BBC America:

You are TOTALLY AWESOME for FINALLY announcing the air date for Children of Earth. I know where I'll be July 20th at 9:00.

I am confused though, as to why BBC America makes this announcement first, as it is, you know, a British show. IMDB is still listing the initial air dates for the episodes as the week of June 15th, but that's awfully soon for there having been no announcement in Britain. Also, is there still a plan to show the eps on the same days in the UK and the US?

Either way, JULY 20!!!!!

I have finally (almost) reached my goal of closing all my tabs. Unfortunately, the only way I could do this and stay sane was to friend a bunch of people without commenting on their journals whatsoever. If you are one of these people, I friended you because I like your fic and want to read more of it. I promise to try to comment in the future when organic chemistry is no longer eating my brain.

Massive Twilight Rec Post, Part 1

So when I first started looking for Twilight fic, I had to work really hard to find the good stuff. As my belated Christmas present to the internets, I present this list in a small attempt to put some of the best fic in the same place.

Since there are too many to fit in one post, I've split the list. Part two has Edward/Bella, this post has Alice/Jasper and everything else.

I was totally going to do NaBloPoMo in an effort to actually post some entries and then I missed the first two days. But better late than never, right?

This month will be the conclusion to what has already been a month straight on midterm craziness. I figure I just need to make it to Thanksgiving and then it will all be downhill. (By which I mean finals.)

So of course this is when I decide to start a bunch of projects. Most of these revolve around fandom in someway, but there's also some real world stuff too. Like cleaning and working on my EMT recertification. We'll see if that actually happens.

As far as fandom-y type things, here's what I hope to accomplish:

Keep working on Night Thoughts, writing the rest of the vignettes and getting them actually good.
Finish the fan essay I started comparing Edward/Bella with Remus/Tonks.
Go back to the marauder-era fic I was working on back in August and finish incorporating my beta's suggestions.

Maybe in some alternate reality where I have free time, I will write all of these things. At least I have Christmas break coming in a little over a month.

It's as good a way as any to get started.

Ten Things I've Done That You Probably Haven't

1. Thrown a Clueless-themed joint birthday party

Tired of missing out on all the fun of parties because we have summer birthdays, my friend and I decided we would take matters into our own hands. And it was the most awesome-est thing ever. Everything was pink, we wore coordinating Cher outfits and everyone else dressed the part too.

2. Thrown a banana out a fifth story window just to see what would happen

I considered posting the pictures, but the result is pretty gross.

3. Eaten at the Cracker Barrel in Maumee, Ohio

This occurred while stopping for the night as we drove from Boston to Minneapolis. That's two 12-hour days in the car. Each way. Three girls in one Honda Civic. Yes, it was amazingly fun on the way there. No, no one died on the way back. We did, however, spend a solid 10 hours not speaking to each other on the way back. And that doesn't include the time we were sleeping. But after that first day in the car, boy was that Cracker Barrel good, screaming children and all.

4. Acted in a children's theatre production of The Wizard of Oz while encased in a cast that went from my hand up past my elbow

When I was 14-almost 15, I celebrated my birthday in that monstrosity-I broke my arm while roller blading. It's important to understand that, as far as I remember, I was standing still when I fell. (I will never forget when I told my first-year college roommates this story; they laughed so hard.) It ruined my chance to go to windsurfing camp, but nothing could get in the way of my last year at theatre camp. So I sang, "danced", and acted with my elbow fixed at a 90 degree angle and hopped up on vicodin.

5. Saw a mouse in Barnes and Noble while waiting for my copy of Order of the Phoenix

I think he was confused about why there were so many people all up in his space at one in the morning.

6. Been back-boarded approximately 25-30 times

I'm not extremely unlucky when it comes to spine-threatening accidents, but I have been an EMT. The only way to learn how to spine board someone is to actually do it; the only way to get a practice patient is to be a practice patient. The KED devices, for stabilizing a seated patient, are actually quite comfortable. They do wonders for your posture.

7. Had the role of "cape girl" in a college parody production

There's absolutely no way to satisfactorily  describe this unless you went to my college.  Because we were rapping!cape girls.

8. Performed the Thriller dance on stage

This was the same show as #7.  The amount of awesome is hard to describe.

9.  Seen someone try to order bottled water in a restauraunt and then, due to a hilarious language barrier, end up with a cup of hot water instead

Boiled water.  My friend got boiled water.

10. Watched people eat food out of a bag they found in the free bin labeled "Free Chinese Food  Please Take"

Luckily, no one died as a result of this one.
